Improving lives … one meal at a time.
The Gourmet Guys was founded on the belief that great food is about more than flavors, textures, and nutritional values. It’s about bringing people together around the table.
Meet Our Co-founders
Co-founders Lou and Al started The Gourmet Guys in the hope that their love of great food—and great experiences—would nourish the lives of the clients.
Al’s career in professional kitchens spanned the Poconos, Scranton, and Harrisburg. But his love of cooking began in his grandmother’s basement kitchen, where he learned to roll out pasta dough as a child, in preparation for the raucous gathering of aunts and uncles and cousins that marked every Sunday. It was there that he discovered the role that food plays in drawing people together. In co-founding The Gourmet Guys, Al’s goal has been to provide the kind of great food that can bring people together. In doing so, Al draws on a wide variety of international cuisines, from Italian to German and from Moroccan to Indian. By spending time in your kitchen, he hopes to free you up to spend more time where you’d rather be … with the people who matter most.
Meanwhile, half of Lou’s adult life has been spent in banquets and catering, helping people enjoy life’s key moments. It‘s this experience that taught Lou the importance of paying attention to the details that can make all the difference on an important day. Today, that attention to detail can mean a well-placed garnish or a beautifully plated dessert, a perfectly crisped chicken breast or meatballs that remind you of your grandmother’s. While Lou’s own taste is for food that is flavorful but unpretentious—like Louisiana crawfish, blackened catfish, fried chicken, and corned beef—you’ll sometimes find him dusting oeufs à la neige with 24-karat gold, or forming meringue into little mushrooms for a beautiful bûche de Nöel … whatever it takes to make your special day truly special.
Whether it’s in delivering quality meals to your home, or offering chef services in your kitchen, or catering your next party, Lou and Al hope that The Gourmet Guys will help you to bring family and friends together around the table to enjoy life’s best moments together.
Keeping you safe.
Food Safety. The Gourmet Guys requires that chef services can only be offered in your home when a chef with manager-level food safety certification is on the premises. Food safety training and certification are provided by ServSafe, a program of the National Restaurant Association (NRA), accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Conference for Food Protection (CFP). Feel free to ask your chef to show you his credentials; he carries a wallet card with a unique certification number that can be verified on the ServSafe website.
Insurance. The Gourmet Guys is fully insured. We carry A+ rated general insurance, product liability insurance, and equipment coverage. And if you’d like to be added as an additional named insured on The Gourmet Guys’ policy, that’s possible at no extra charge—just ask your chef about this option during your initial consultation.
COVID Safety. All Gourmet Guys chefs and staff are fully vaccinated against SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19. They’ll discuss with you the use of masks and gloves in your home. And, of course, by maintaining proper food-safety standards, like frequent handwashing and taking care not to have bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat food, The Gourmet Guys team is working to keep you safe, not only from foodborne illness, but also from COVID-19.
